About Cluely

Cluely is an AI assistant that listens to calls, meetings and interviews and suggests answers in real time. It was founded by Roy Lee, who was expelled from Columbia University after building a tool to help candidates in technical job interviews, and it launched in spring 2025 with the deliberately provocative slogan "Cheat on everything".

The search data is the shape of a launch driven by controversy. Interest is zero until April 2025, jumps on launch, and climbs to the highest week of the series in August 2025. It then falls through the autumn and has settled since the winter at roughly a third of that peak: the 2026 average so far, around 27, is below 2025's average of about 33.

The attention was converted into capital quickly. Cluely raised $5.3 million in seed funding and then $15 million from Andreessen Horowitz in 2025. Its revenue claims were part of the marketing too — and Lee later admitted that one widely shared figure, $7 million in annual recurring revenue, had been false.

That is what makes this page worth reading next to the steadier risers in this dataset. A provocative launch can buy a spike in attention almost on demand, but the curve afterwards shows whether the product held anyone. Here it has not collapsed — interest has stabilised rather than vanished — but the company has not yet found a second wave, and a business built on a viral moment has to replace that moment with something more durable.
