About Roo Code
Roo Code was an AI coding agent that ran inside VS Code. It began as a fork of Cline, another open-source coding agent, and differentiated itself with custom modes — specialised agent personas for tasks such as architecture, coding and debugging — and with flexible support for different AI models.
The search data has a shape that only makes sense with its ending known. Interest is minimal through 2024, then jumps to a yearly average around 39 in 2025 as agentic coding tools went mainstream. The highest week of the whole series falls at the end of May 2026 — and that is after the project had been shut down.
On 21 April 2026 its founder announced that Roo Code would be archived, and the repository was archived on 15 May, with the team moving to a new cloud-based agent called Roomote and recommending Cline to existing users. The peak in searches therefore measures users trying to find out what had happened and where to go next, not adoption. Interest over the following quarter collapsed to roughly a third of the level before it.
That is the lesson this page is worth keeping for. A spike in search interest is usually read as good news, but attention also peaks at moments of disruption — a shutdown, an outage, a price rise — when existing users need answers. Without the context, the highest point of this curve would be read as the product's best moment; it was, in fact, its last.
