About Stripe Atlas

Stripe Atlas is Stripe's company-formation service. For a flat fee it incorporates a startup as a Delaware C corporation, issues founder shares, obtains a US tax number and opens the accounts needed to start charging customers — a process that is otherwise slow and expensive, particularly for founders outside the United States.

Search interest was stable for years: a yearly average around 12 to 16 from 2022 through 2024. It then more than doubled to about 39 in 2025, and 2026 to date averages in the mid-sixties, with the highest week in May 2026.

Stripe's own figures tell the same story from the inside. Atlas incorporated about 23,000 companies in 2025, and the company says it now forms roughly one in five new Delaware C corporations. In 2026 it passed 100,000 incorporations in total, as the search data reached its high. The likely driver is that AI tools have lowered the cost of building a first product, so more people reach the point of needing a company to put it in, including many solo founders and many outside the US.

A reasonable caution: incorporations measure intent, not outcomes. A sharp rise in new companies is a leading indicator of activity, but most will never raise money or reach meaningful revenue, and the interest curve will follow the mood around starting companies as much as the underlying economics.
